Panasonic X700

[image] This might be the phone that the Nokia 6260 should have been, for the odd reason that silver flip phones invariably look nearly identical. Why is this? Insecurity on the owners' or makers' parts?

Panasonic have taken this tepid design brief and finally done something original with the generic silver flappy phone, they've stuck some smart guts into it! Think of it as wolf in sheep's clothing or a Q-Phone, dumb on the outside and smart on the inside.

All About Series 60 has a summary of the phone's specification with a selection of photos. Series60.com also has a reasonably detailed specification list.

The Vodafone network is carrying a branded version which they're calling the Panasonic X701, which appears to have no significant hardware changes from the X700.

Will this phone be replaced by the Panasonic X800? Given that the X800 isn't shipping yet, that's difficult to say, the V800 look-a-like X800 is certainly less bland looking, so maybe the X700 will be retained for the aestetically conservative consumer.

If you're the sort of person that avoids "candy-bar" phones because locking the keypad is too onerous, why not try AutoLock, an automatic keypad lock program?

There are other Specific Phones in the Series 60 range.
